Hi guys!

Your officers have made some TOTALLY AWESOME arrow pens! We have about 30 of them ready to go and are now selling them for $5 each (cash or check). Christmas is approaching and they make great gifts for friends and relatives, so why not buy a few of them as gifts and one (or two) for yourself! If you would like to buy some, just send an email to archery@usc.edu and let us know how many you would like and we will arrange to meet with you!

Check out the photos below of us making the pens and the finished products!!

Last Saturday (11/12), several Archery Club members participated in the Bruin Indoor 2011 Collegiate Tournament, hosted by UCLA. This was a great introduction to competition-style shooting for our new archers who participated and they all shot really well!

Jessica Chen placed first with her team in the team competition. And in the Men’s New Recurve individual competition, Scott MacDonald placed second, and Seong Ju Kim placed third. Great shooting, guys, and congratulations!

Some photos from the competition are below, but to see more, check out the whole album on

Last Monday (11/7), several club members participated in a homecoming competition called Anything Goes, in which we competed as a team against other USC clubs in a series of surprise events. We participated in a Twister competition and tied for first place with two other teams and also in a competition in which people had to search for keys in a tray full of whipped cream to unlock a prize, using only their faces!

Unfortunately, we didn’t get any photos of the Twister competition, but the photos below are from the whipped cream-eating competition!

Enjoy!

Hi guys!

If you didn’t make it to practice last Friday (10/21), then you missed an unusual sight: Jeep shooting! After years of club members’ begging, Jeep finally brought his two lovely longbows to the range and shot with us! Below are some photos of him shooting and displaying the bows.

The Pac-12 Best of the West Fitness Challenge is back!!
The challenge begins on Monday, October 24th and ends Sunday, October 30th. In order to help win points for our club and university, you must visit the facebook page here and “Like” the page in order to start recording your minutes. Family and friends can also “Like” the page without being a part of the university and they can help us earn points, so make sure to tell your friends and family!

So basically, any activity you do next week, you should record down and submit on facebook, whether that is walking or biking to class, working out, etc. You get points for every minute that you exercise next week (but you must log your minutes on Facebook!) and the school that has the most points at the end will win $5,000. Woot. For the archery club, if you log in your minutes on facebook, make sure to also send a totaled number of minutes for the entire week to me at chen85@usc.edu so that I can submit it to RCC. RCC will give money to the three clubs that have the most minutes.

The Lyon Center will also have FREE Workout classes and FREE TRX Suspension Training classes during this week, so make sure to try those out and count them in your minutes. Go to the Lyon Center, grab a buddy to exercise with you, or anything else that makes you active and happy (actively happy)!

Hopefully this will motivate y’all to exercise more this week (and perhaps continue this habit for the future) :D

Hello archers,
Competitions are coming up soon! =) We may be participating in a small tournament with other colleges on November 12 as a precursor to the Indoor Championships which are held at the end of Winter Break. There are also several other competitions later on the year where you can shoot with archers from all different states and universities under different weather conditions and different distances. So if you are interested or thinking about competing this year please email Christine, our Tournament Manager, at cjang@usc.edu with your name and phone number. She will be helping you with the registration process (see our email for more information) and will send you updates concerning upcoming tournaments.

Please note that in order to qualify for tournaments you must meet the following requirements:
1. Full-time student pursuing a degree at any accredited college or university as recognized by the US Dept. of Education with a Federal School Code.
2. Maintain cumulative 2.0 or greater GPA on a 4-point scale (3.0 for graduate students)
3. Member of the appropriate organization as outlined above.
4. Member of a college club registered with the US Collegiate Archery Association.

I hope you are excited and that I will see you at competitions!

We are forming a team for the Anything Goes competition during Homecoming. It is a competition with (most likely) three secret events in which we compete as a team against other organizations. The competition is on Monday, November 7th from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at the latest. If you would like to join our team, email us at archery@usc.edu to let us know, or feel free to drop by to see what’s going on!

Also, we will be having a Halloween Social!! Instead of regular practice on Sunday, October 30th we will have a BBQ and Pumpkin shoot, in costume! We will meet at Subway at 2 pm, then head over to the range for a late lunch/early dinner BBQ, followed by our usual practice until 7pm. We will bring some pumpkins for use as targets, and we encourage everyone to show up in their Halloween costume! Please RSVP for practice as usual; we will have a separate RSVP for the BBQ, so if you are able to attend make sure to check that box, too, so we can get a headcount. The BBQ will be semi-potluck style so when you RSVP, please comment what you are bringing (either a food item or money).

I’m excited to see you!
Jessica

The team needs at least 12 participants to join, so if you’re interested, contact archery@usc.edu for more information. The application deadline is October 10th, only a few days away, so tell us soon so we can add you.

Hi everybody!

We’ve had lots of practices so far this semester and you all have been improving dramatically! Six weeks ago, many of you couldn’t tell how to hold a bow right-side-up, but now look at you! You’re all learning about the proper stance, rotating your scapula, and trying out the Form-Master (that was a hilarious couple of practices, right?). All in all, you guys are all doing great!!

Below, you can see the photos that we’ve been taking at practices and we’ll do our best to take one at the end of every practice!

Enjoy!
